This Weekend: BETHESDA ROW Hosts Its SUMMER SIDEWALK SALE

Markdowns and Restaurant Specials Make Fun for the Entire Family

WHO:  Bethesda Row, downtown Bethesda’s premiere shopping, dining, and lifestyle destination announces it’s summer sidewalk sale.

WHAT: Featuring markdowns and specials from Bethesda Row favorites like Luna, Urban Country, Ginger, Lebanese Taverna, Equinox and more, the sidewalk sale offers patrons an opportunity to shop and dine on a dime on the outdoor pedestrian cobblestone walkway know as “the row” and it’s surrounding area. Shoppers can also enter to win a $200 gift certificate by going to http://bethesdarow.com/events/sidewalk-sale and filling out the entry for that is linked.

The Fashion Group International® of Greater Washington, DC in collaboration with Tysons Galleria and Capitol File Magazine will host the Fall/Winter 2011/2012 Trend Overview and keynote presentation with award winning fashion journalist and Creative Director of The Fashion Group International®, Marylou Luther on Tuesday, May 17th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at Tysons Galleria.

The presentation will feature a compilation of apparel, accessories, beauty, color and fabric trends from the New York, Milan and Paris Fall/Winter 2011/2012 collections in an engaging and truly inspiring experience for industry professionals and media before the trends reach the consumers. The Fashion Group International® has showcased audio-visual presentations covering the seasonal fashion runway collections in the United States and in Europe since Ready-to-Wear shows began in the 1960's.

It is not the first city that comes to mind if one is interested in the entertainment or fashion industry, yet recently there has been a growth of new artistic talent blossoming in the D.C. area especially with regards to the fashion industry. There is an array of up and coming artists, photographers and fashion designers gracing the city with their presence, creativity and hard work. Cynthia Bapst is one of those talents who is continuously proving that success can be created in any city if you have a real passion and drive for what you do.

For over two decades, Mona Hajj has been designing interiors that combine global vision with an emphasis on elegance, comfort, and simplicity. Named one of Architectural Digest's top 100 designers and architects, Hajj's interiors are colorful, textural, and abundantly livable. Her distinctly original and internationally influenced aesthetic is evidenced by her use of culturally and historically diverse adornments such as Persian rugs, Flemish tapestries, Japanese screens, Italian chandeliers, and Chinese chargers. On this evening, Hajj discusses select projects showcased in her book, Interior Visions (Random House, 2011), including a beach house in Delaware, a New York City apartment, the Embassy of Luxembourg here in Washington, D.C., and even her own home in Baltimore. Last Friday night, hundreds descended upon Washington DC's Omni Shoreham Hotel to honor legends in communications broadcast and entertainment at the National Association of Black Owned Broadcaster's 27th Annual Awards Dinner. 

Guests that attended the glamorous, black tie affair came out to pay homage to this year's award recipients which included award winning CNN anchor, Soledad O'Brien, television show host and gospel music pioneer, Bobby Jones, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and blues guitarist & singer, Buddy Guy and world renowned calypso singer and songwriter, Mighty Sparrow.

Local Women Star in New Television Show Focusing on Style and Lifestyle in DC and Hunt Country

Episode one of Style in the City, a show that's all about styleand lifestylein and around the Nation's Capitol, first aired this week. And if you have access to Fairfax Public Access Chanel 10, it should be easy enough to catch or DVR (since it's showing more than thirty times this month!).

The show's cast comprises Leesburg resident, Leigh Macdonald, DC's Stefanie Ball, and two Middleburg women, Cindy Bapst and Elizabeth Miller. The show's director, Kristin Rustom, resides in both Middleburg and DC. The show focuses on distinctions between the life in the District and life in nearby Hunt Country, and much of the first episode was filmed on location at Delaplane Cellars in Delaplane, VA.
