Happy Brawlidays

Happy Brawlidays

Give the gift of derby this holiday season! Bring your family, bring your friends, bring your coworkers or just bring yourself to the DC Armory this Saturday, Dec. 18, to see the DC DemonCats fight it out against Scare Force One. Both teams will certainly be in the brawliday spirit as they trade gifts of hip checks and bruises.

This bout is sure to leave the Armory shaking, as these two teams—so far undefeated—will be fighting to take the lead this season. Scare Force One, who came out on top in Seasons 1 and 2, are eager to show their dominance over the Season 3 and 4 champion DemonCats. With a roster heavy on members of the DC All-Stars (Condoleezza Slice, Chinese Cheker, Marion Barrycuda, Velocityraptor, Soledad and Lois Slain), Scare Force has a strong base. But the DemonCats are confident that smart strategy can get them ahead.

Continue Riding Trough the Winter: Cold Weather Biking Tips

Continue Riding Trough the Winter: Cold Weather Biking Tips

It’s hard to believe it’s only mid-December and we've already seen our first snowflakes, accompanied by freezing temperatures and wind advisories. While the D.C. area doesn’t generally get the kind of snow we saw last year, we certainly see our fair share of occasional flurries, as well as miserably cold and wet weather, which can make for treacherous conditions when biking on roads and trails. And as the days get shorter, most cyclists will probably be riding home from work in the dark. So, if you plan to continue commuting by bike through the winter months, start preparing now in order to stay warm and safe as weather conditions shift.

What Sport Makes The Best Movies?

What Sport Makes The Best Movies?

A recent preview of the new Marky Mark film The Fighter provoked a discussion among many of my friends that generated the question, "What is the best kind of sports film?" Many people have ranked sports movies over the years, and have done so in various ways: some by the individual sport, some lump all sports together, and some by sports movies starring Kevin Costner. I am a fan of both sports and movies and am therefore, by the transitive property, a fan of sport movies. To paraphrase Crash Davis:

Wizards Fan Tries To Eat BGR Burger Joint's Mega Hamburger, Behind the Scenes Video

On Tuesday, November 23, Washington Wizards fan George Koonce attempted the impossible: eat BGR The Burger Joint's infamous 15 plus pound hamburger.  The sandwich(if you can call it that) has almost ten pounds of meat, more than a head of lettuce, multiple beefsteak tomatoes, a pound of pickles, as well as onions and sauce, in between two giant buns(approximately three pounds).

The challenge started at tip-off of the Wizards/76ers game.  If Koonce could finish the beast by the end of the third quarter, the entire crowd would receive a free BGR burger.

But poor George never stood a chance.

After the first quarter, he had finished just one slice that made up only 1/8 of the entire burger.  It was at this point that Koonce gave up.

"No one can eat this much food," He said as he cratered.
