DPR Closes Grass Fields Due to Recent Rain

This notice comes to us from John Stokes:

The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) has announced that due to recent rain, DPR grass fields will be closed Wednesday, November 16, 2011 for the safety of DPR customers. Poor field conditions can pose a hazard to participants and damage the playing surface, thereby making the field unusable over time. 

All artificial turf fields will remain open and playable at the discretion of the game officials.

In his ongoing effort to elevate high school sports in the District of Columbia, Mayor Gray today will announce updates to this year’s annual Thanksgiving Day tradition. The 42nd Annual Safeway Turkey Bowl will pit the Dunbar Senior High School Crimson Tide against the Coolidge Senior High School Colts for the Turkey Bowl Championship.  The game will be played on Thursday, November 24, 11:00 am at Eastern High School, 1700 East Capitol Street, NE.

Fans of The George Washington University's men's basketball program are hoping that the team's 2011-2012 season brings as much excitement to the Charles E. Smith Center as these dancing mascots did this past Friday night.
