One Is the Magic Number: One Lounge Celebrates One Year Anniversary

One Is the Magic Number: One Lounge Celebrates One Year Anniversary

It's hard to believe that Dupont Circle's very own, One Lounge has only been open for just one year. In this short time, the restaurant and lounge has managed to become a hot spot destination for dining and special events alike, welcoming in some of DC's most high-profile personalities.

On Tuesday night, Washington Capitals' stars Alex Ovechkin, Alexander Semin and Semyon Varlamov joined One Lounge co-owners Niko Papademtriou, Seth McClelland, Filipp Zeldin and Daniel Kramer to make a toast to the restaurant's one-year anniversary. Guests were privy to passed hors d'oeuvres and a four hour open bar sponsored by Perrier-Jouet, Red Bull and Svedka featuring One Lounge's new winter cocktails.

Almost One Year Since Opening Big Chair Coffee Shop Benefitting Community, Battling Recession

“Two or three years ago, (Anacostia) was not as we see it right now.  There’s a lot of progress around here,” Bantamlak Yimenu said as he peered out onto Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue from a corner table in Southeast D.C.'s Big Chair Coffee Shop. “There’s a lot of big change coming up.”

Almost a year ago now, Yimenu and his sister kicked off that change when they opened Big Chair, the first true sit-down coffee shop East of the Anacostia River.

“There are a number of people who live in this neighborhood who want gourmet coffee, (and a) gourmet coffee shop,” Yimenu said.  “Instead of going across the River to get that kind of place, we’ve brought it here.”

A Capital Culinary Christmas: The Jefferson, Washington, DC Whips Up Festive Holiday Menus

This story comes to us from Patricia Nugent:

Whether by the crackling fireplace at Plume or under the magical lighting of The Greenhouse, The Jefferson, Washington, DC will be the place to dine this holiday season, thanks to four inspired menus by Executive Chef Damon Gordon. Even better, these memorable culinary events can be combined with overnight accommodations at special package rates, for a holiday to cherish just a short stroll from the White House, the National Christmas Tree, ice-skating on the National Mall and other capital festivities.

Wizards Fan Tries To Eat BGR Burger Joint's Mega Hamburger, Behind the Scenes Video

On Tuesday, November 23, Washington Wizards fan George Koonce attempted the impossible: eat BGR The Burger Joint's infamous 15 plus pound hamburger.  The sandwich(if you can call it that) has almost ten pounds of meat, more than a head of lettuce, multiple beefsteak tomatoes, a pound of pickles, as well as onions and sauce, in between two giant buns(approximately three pounds).

The challenge started at tip-off of the Wizards/76ers game.  If Koonce could finish the beast by the end of the third quarter, the entire crowd would receive a free BGR burger.

But poor George never stood a chance.

After the first quarter, he had finished just one slice that made up only 1/8 of the entire burger.  It was at this point that Koonce gave up.

"No one can eat this much food," He said as he cratered.

Tomatillo Taqueria in Dupont Circle Serves Lunch Out of A Window

Amidst Dupont Circle's fancy sit-down restaurants like The Palm and big-time chain delis like Cosi, Tomatillo Taqueira truly is one of a kind.

For just over a year now, Tomatillo Taqueira has been serving burritos and tacos to the Dupont community out of a window on the first floor of The Big Hunt, a bar located by the Circle right on Connecticut Avenue.

Tomatillo Taqueira is only open during lunch hours Monday-Friday, but the food is well worth it.  The meats and salsas are delicious, the prices are reasonable, and being served food on the street by something other than a food truck in D.C. is pretty awesome.

Dupont Circle's Panera Bread First in D.C.; Why Should You Visit?

Panera Bread has finally come to D.C..  Hallelujah.

Yes, there has been one in Friendship Heights, but last Friday Panera's first location in D.C. proper opened up in Dupont Circle.

Panera should do incredibly well in Dupont.  While it's surrounded by bakery competition(it's sandwiched between Krispy Kreme and Cosi on Connecticut Avenue), the neighborhood should embrace yet another tasty place to get a bite to eat.

Check out the video interview above to learn more about the brand new Dupont Circle Panera Bread, and why you should go!

Also, check out what Panera is doing with their bathrooms that might cause a bit of controversy.
