The Jefferson Rings in the New Year with an Affair to Remember

The Jefferson Rings in the New Year with an Affair to Remember

The following event was sent to us by Patricia Nugent:

The Jefferson, Washington, DC will host its second annual New Years Eve Celebration at Quill, the hotel’s elegant cocktail lounge, on Dec. 31, 2010 from 10 p.m.–2 a.m. Guests will enjoy an evening of expertly crafted cocktails featuring Chopin Vodka and will toast the New Year with Krug Champagne.

Quill’s terrace will feature a complimentary Mulled Wine station and will be the perfect spot for cigars and cognac to keep warm in the cool night air. Inside, tempting libations by Quill’s expert team of mixologists will add to the evening’s festivities while musician Peter Robinson will perform throughout the evening on Quill’s piano.  At midnight, guests will be invited onto the terrace to watch as bottles of Champagne are cut open simultaneously by saber to ring in the New Year.

Behind the scenes at the National Christmas Tree lighting

Behind the scenes at the National Christmas Tree lighting

The National Christmas Tree is a great holiday tradition in the D.C. area and best of all, it's free! I was lucky enough to get access as preparations were made for the tree lighting event that took place December 9. The event will be televised on public television and will feature some terrific musical performances including the great B.B. King, Maroon 5, Sara Bareilles, and Ingrid Michaelson. I want to single out 10 year old Jackie Evancho, who gives an amazing rendition of "O Holy Night." Catching the broadcast is worth it for that alone.

One Is the Magic Number: One Lounge Celebrates One Year Anniversary

One Is the Magic Number: One Lounge Celebrates One Year Anniversary

It's hard to believe that Dupont Circle's very own, One Lounge has only been open for just one year. In this short time, the restaurant and lounge has managed to become a hot spot destination for dining and special events alike, welcoming in some of DC's most high-profile personalities.

On Tuesday night, Washington Capitals' stars Alex Ovechkin, Alexander Semin and Semyon Varlamov joined One Lounge co-owners Niko Papademtriou, Seth McClelland, Filipp Zeldin and Daniel Kramer to make a toast to the restaurant's one-year anniversary. Guests were privy to passed hors d'oeuvres and a four hour open bar sponsored by Perrier-Jouet, Red Bull and Svedka featuring One Lounge's new winter cocktails.

Rally to Restore Sanity

People are quibbling over how many people showed up at the rally to restore sanity on the mall Saturday. I have no idea what the real number is (200,000 or ten million), but I was at the inauguration and took the same metro stop into the city and I've never seen anything like it.     It took about an hour to get on the train and then we were packed like sardines.  At each stop the people on the train would shove closer to each other to try to get more people on. The guy next to me said sharing butt heat from the guy/girl behind him that he couldn't see was a special moment in time, it would be over soon, and he didn't want to know who it was.
