D.C.: Here’s Your Chance To Dress Up As A French Maid And Race Others Dressed As French Maids

Some children dream of growing up and becoming famous singers, some dream of being on the big screen, and others dream of one day having the opportunity to dress up as a French maid and participate in a race against others dressed as French maids.  The kids that fantasized about the latter-most activity throughout their childhood are about to get the chance of a lifetime.

To celebrate Bastille Day, L’Enfant Café Bar, located at 2200 18th Street, Northwest in Adams Morgan, will host their 8th Annual Bastille Day Block Party on Saturday, July 14, complete with food, drink, can-can dancing performance, and the much anticipated French maid race.

The party will take place on Vernon Street in between 18th and 19th Streets from 3 p.m.-11 p.m..  Tickets will be available at the event for $5.

The French maid race will kick off at 6 p.m., and L’Enfant Café will provide costumes for up to 40 competitors.  The costumes are described as “short, frilly black and white lace apron” dresses.  One thing comes to mind after writing what I just wrote: YOLO.

If you have your own French maid outfit, I’m pretty sure you can bring it and wear it…you’ll probably just have to answer several questions from peers about why you own your own French maid outfit.

The winner of the race will be the contestant who is first “to fill a Champagne glass with soup spoons of water by running back and forth between the coupe and a bucket”. The champion will win some prizes, including a magnum of Champagne.

Other reasons to attend this Bastille Day fiesta include a raffle for two round-trip tickets to Paris, France, bars serving Stella Artois and Leffe, wine, and vodka cocktails, an animated DJ set, and a food truck pavilion.

For more details, including a schedule of events, visit L’Enfant Café’s online.

Booze, food, dancing, and people running around dressed in scantily clad French maid costumes: God I love America.
