Bend, Don't Break

Bamboo is prized in Asia not only for the usefulness of its sprouts as food, its inner stem as medicine, and its stalk as constructive material, but also for its cultural significance as a symbol for flexibility. The supple plant is able to survive even the most devastating storms. Our lives, too, are filled with unexpected happenings, and those who are successful at adapting to change have better health and more fulfilling lives. Possessing flexibility as a personality trait can assist greatly in the recovery from illness; emotional and physical. Try not to become overly attached to a specific outcome: stay on the course you have charted for your life, but understand that when barriers present themselves you'll sometimes have to take a detour in order to get back on track. Practice stretching, yoga, tai chi: being physically flexible can encourage the same trait in your personality.

Are Your Conscious Dietary Choices Contributing To Planetary Destruction?

The idea of your personal diet having a significant environmental impact has gained a more widespread airing, as this is on the whole a wonderfully positive trend.  It certainly will affect our chances of surviving intact well into the future, and it has numerous fringe benefits as well.

But most importantly, the budding food-ecology idea is helping us become more receptive to discoveringquality in our own lives, in our food, and in our planetary surroundings.

However, in my opinion, many folks have missed some critical points in the whole issue of choosing food from the bigger picture.

National Night Out Kickoff Event Tonight, August 2nd

This event comes to us from Robert Marus:

Mayor Vincent C. Gray and Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier will kick off the District’s observance of National Night Out 2011 with an event at 6 p.m., tonight, August 2nd, at Deanwood Recreation Center, located at 49th and Quarles Streets in NE.  The event will encourage residents throughout the District to join with their neighbors and officers in their Police Service Areas in participating in block parties and other events.

The Dogma Of Diet

My experience with natural food diets has shown there are two primary reasons people have for choosing one of the many types available.
