One Pet Foster Volunteer's Experience

One Pet Foster Volunteer's Experience

The Foster Experience
By Kirsten Stade, WHS Volunteer

My boyfriend Florian and I have been fostering dogs in the DC area since early 2008, first with several rescue groups and now with the Washington Humane Society (WHS).  These four years have contained their share of urine-stained furniture; shredded electronics, upholstery, and a passport; uprooted landscaping; and seemingly futile efforts at peacekeeping in a household with what some would say is too many critters under one roof. But above the sometimes deafening chaos, I have never questioned what I believe is a defining truth: fostering animals is the most important thing I can do in this lifetime.

“It's been a long time since I gave you an update on Bam's progress—he is doing amazing as you will see in his picture! He visits the vet and scores great in all around health and he continues to amaze me each and every day. He is now without a doubt my perfect companion.”

WHS Alumni Update: May 25, 2012

It’s a holiday weekend, so we’ll keep today’s post short and sweet. Catch up with two amazing WHS alumni!

Rocky

Rocky went home yesterday! Rocky came to the Washington Humane Society emaciated with severe congenital skeletal deformations as well as calluses on both legs and a severely infected sore on one leg. He was being kept in a crate approximately half his size with no bedding for 15-20 hours a day. After a long recovery under the care of dedicated officers in our Humane Law Enforcement Department, he has happily found his forever family! Hooray for Rocky! (Check out all the love he received on our recent Facebook post!).

Peanut
“Peanut is a real blessing. I'm very happy that I took a chance on adopting a special needs senior Chihuahua. He's a really sweet dog and has adjusted very well, and he gets along well with Lil Missy Riverdale, another senior dog who was adopted from WHS the year before. Peanut loves the mini-rawhide chew bones and gets around well indoors and outside, despite his vision problem. He's like having a puppy around all the time.”
-Rita Pazzelli

Want to meet more great seniors like Peanut? We’re helping the “Class of 2012” graduate this weekend by offering fee-waived adoptions on all of our older and long-time pet residents! Visit our adoption centers May 18-20 to meet your new best friend!

Jerry Seinfeld Returns to Kennedy Center

Jerry Seinfeld Returns to Kennedy Center

Jerry Seinfeld is back and performing stand-up at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall this August.

Seinfeld has a unique style of stand-up that allows him to joke about the little things in life that everyone can relate to. Unlike other comedians, Seinfeld doesn't use a lot of profanity, which is great when you want to bring your parents!

He will be at the Kennedy Center for three shows beginning August 3.

Tickets go on sale on Friday, May 18 at 10 a.m. with prices ranging from $69 - $88.

Tickets are also available online at www.kennedy-center.org or at the Kennedy Center Box Office (2700 F Street NW)  or by phone 202-467-4600.
