Shaw Main Streets Development Forum Addresses Howard Theatre, CityMarket Among Others

This story was sent to us by the office of Jack Evans, Ward 2 Councilman:

The annual Shaw Main Streets Development Forum was recently held at the Watha T. Daniel/Shaw Library, where developers presented updates on their projects, as well as plans for sites not previously presented to the community.  Shaw continues to see movement on several important neighborhood projects such as:

Howard Theatre:  After having broken ground on September 2, renovation is now under way.  The interior of the theater, located on the 600 block of T Street, NW, is being gutted and a new basement will be excavated.

CityMarket at O:  The two square block redevelopment of the historic O Street Market and Giant Food store, broke ground on September 1.

Marriott Marquis Convention Center hotel:  This project will break ground in November.  The nearly 1200 room hotel, which will be connected to the convention center by an underground passageway and encompass most of the block bounded by Massachusetts Avenue, 9th, 10th, and L Streets, NW.

City Center DC:  The redevelopment of the old Washington Convention Center site (between H, 9th and 11th Streets and New York Avenue, NW) as a mixed use complex (residential, retail, and office space) will likely kick off in the spring of 2011.
