A Capital Culinary Christmas: The Jefferson, Washington, DC Whips Up Festive Holiday Menus

This story comes to us from Patricia Nugent:

Whether by the crackling fireplace at Plume or under the magical lighting of The Greenhouse, The Jefferson, Washington, DC will be the place to dine this holiday season, thanks to four inspired menus by Executive Chef Damon Gordon. Even better, these memorable culinary events can be combined with overnight accommodations at special package rates, for a holiday to cherish just a short stroll from the White House, the National Christmas Tree, ice-skating on the National Mall and other capital festivities.

The celebration begins on December 24, with a Christmas Eve Champagne Afternoon Tea served in two appealing settings. Gathered in The Jefferson’s elegant lounge, Quill, or by the warmth of a cozy fire in the Book Room, loved ones can toast the holidays with a glass of champagne, cup of tea and delectable holiday pastries for $85 per person. The Christmas Eve tea will be served from 2:30-4:30 p.m.

Later that evening, the critically acclaimed Plume will welcome guests for an unforgettable Christmas Eve Dinner in an intimate setting inspired by Jefferson’s beloved Monticello home. A seven-course tasting menu filled with epicurean delights will be available for $125 per person, and will be served from 6 – 9:30 p.m. After dinner, guests who choose the overnight package can slip upstairs to one of The Jefferson’s exquisite guest rooms or Parisian-styled suites. Available December 23 and 24, the package starts at $475 per night and includes overnight accommodations, Christmas Eve dinner and breakfast for two.

On Christmas Day, Chef Gordon’s three-course tasting menu will include holiday favorites and exciting new flavors. Seatings will continue throughout the day from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The dinner alone is $85 per person, while an overnight package, available December 24 and 25, includes dinner and breakfast for a special rate starting at $410 per night for two.

Two New Year’s Eve options make it easy for guests to ring in 2011 in their own fashion. A $150 six-course tasting menu with wine pairings by award-winning sommelier Michael Scaffidi will start with a 5:30 p.m. seating that allows revelers plenty of time to dine before heading out for a celebratory night on the town. A later seating at 9:30 p.m. will feature the same memorable menu enhanced with musical entertainment under the spectacular Greenhouse skylight, party favors and a midnight champagne toast, all for $275 per person. Later, guests who book the overnight package can enjoy a night of blissful slumber in the downy comfort of a Jefferson bed. Available December 30 and 31, the package includes dinner for two and breakfast the next morning at rates starting at $535 per night for the first dinner seating and $785 for the second.

For those with alternative dining plans, The Jefferson can also serve as the home-base starting point for locals and their guests to celebrate the season in D.C. The Your Holiday Spare Room package is the perfect way to comfortably host friends and family – giving everyone a little space to keep the festivities merry and bright.  Available through December 31, 2010, the experience includes overnight accommodations, parking, breakfast and a welcome amenity of cookies and hot cocoa, starting at $300 per night.  The same package elements can be enhanced with the Celebrate the Season on a Capital Scale experience, which also includes tickets for ice skating on the National Mall, hand warmers, all-day Metro passes and a walking map to explore the capital’s many holiday celebrations.  This extended packaged is also available through December 31, 2010 and starts at $372 per night.
