A Turkish Tradition: Jazz Music?

A Turkish Tradition: Jazz Music?

For those of you who may know me and my love live music, you can only imagine how elated I was when I received an invitation to the Turkish Ambassador’s house to enjoy an evening of live Jazz music by The Helen Sung Quartet and some delicious Turkish food!

Locals React To LivingSocial Dollar Lunch Day

There was an unusual buzz throughout Downtown D.C. this morning, an energy that far surpassed the standard Friday.

The excitement, shared by locals all over the District, was a result of the city's preeminent company, LivingSocial, giving back to the community it calls home.

In an effort to promote the launch of its new instant deals feature, LivingSocial ran a special today, offering lunches at more than one hundred participating D.C. food joints to customers for a buck.

That's right: One dollar.  That's one hundred pennies.  That's twenty pieces of Bazooka bubble gum.  That's one of those dollar scratch-off lottery tickets that never wins.

The deal was insane, and, we assume, so were the amount of purchases.

Escalators All Out At Dupont Metro Again

Escalators All Out At Dupont Metro Again

All three escalators at the Dupont Circle South exit were not working again this morning, leaving thousands of commuters a major walk up the steep stairs to Connecticut Avenue.

Walking up the escalator myself, I passed several people completely out of breath.  Many people were taking breaks, while some looked as though they were in serious pain.

This problem needs to get fixed before someone suffers something serious.

5 Things Your Doctor Isn’t Telling You About CPR

5 Things Your Doctor Isn’t Telling You About CPR

CPR or cardiopulmonary resuscitation used to be very simple to understand. Cardio stands for heart, pulmonary stands for lungs and resuscitation means to revive from death. When a patient died, someone would push on the person’s chest to try to restart the heart while giving mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to help the person breathe. Over time, CPR has become more complex as healthcare professionals have discovered advanced ways to try to bring the person back to life. The patient may now be given medications, his heart may be electrically shocked with paddles placed on the chest, and he may be placed on a ventilator to help him breathe. What seemed like an easy question, “Does the person want CPR?” has turned into a more complicated decision.

What do you need to know to make a good decision?

1.  Make sure you really understand what really happens during CPR.
