Friday's Heroes: DC Coalition Against Domestic Violence

WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- Wanting to help victims of domestic violence is one thing -- the DC Coalition Against Domestic Violence (DCCADV) is a place that offers instruction on how to provide real support for those living with abuse.

The DCCADV unifies diverse local efforts into a single force to eliminate domestic violence in the District of Columbia. Executive Director, Karma Kottman says, "Everyone from cops to volunteers attends the support classes. When someone whose been abused reaches out for help, there's someone there who knows what they're doing."

The crisis intervention seminars put on by the DC Coalition Against Domestic Violence are just one facet of an organization that goes all out to help folks that are battered by those who claim to love them.

DC Police Search For Men From Flash Mob Robbery

WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- DC Police are still searching Friday night for nearly two dozen young men who robbed an upscale Dupont Circle clothing store. They committed a flash mob robbery, and some D.C. merchants are concerned that this type of robbery is a growing, and frightening, trend.

In a flash mob robbery, a large group of people, usually young people, organize on some type of social media like Twitter, and then rob a store.

In this case, nearly 20 young men robbed the G-Star Raw clothing store in Dupont Circle. It happened in broad daylight just a few days ago. In just a matter of minutes, thousands of dollars worth of clothes were stolen.

Police say so far nobody's been arrested. They also say they're not seeing a pattern of flash mob robberies. But the manager of G-Star raw, who did not want to talk on camera, said he's heard from other store managers in Washington that flash mob robberies are becoming increasingly common.

DC Film Alliance: a local filmmaker's best resource

DC Film Alliance: a local filmmaker's best resource

The DC Film Alliance is quite possibly the single best organization for filmmakers and cinephiles in the Nation's Capital. Founded by Jon Gann, who is also the man behind the highly successful DC Shorts Film Festival, the DC Film Alliance offers seminars on filmmaking through the DC Film Salon. Information on topics such as screenwriting, film promotion, and fundraising is presented by knowledgeable people in the field. The laid back Film Salons also offer an opportunity to meet other film enthusiasts and develop connections to potential collaborators.
