The McLaughlin Group and Reuters News Correspondents’ Brunch Completes a Weekend of Celebration

The tradition goes on for The McLaughlin Group Correspondents’ Brunch the morning after the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. On Sunday, May 1, John McLaughlin, creator, executive producer and host of The McLaughlin Group, along with Stephen Adler, editor in chief of Reuters News, hosted the brunch that for McLaughlin has been a ritual for 20-plus years.

Typically held at the Hay Adams Rooftop, with a recent exception in 2009, the event was again at the famed hotel, but in newly renovated rooftop spaces. Once tented and open to the elements, the L-shaped reception hall is now lavishly adorned with classic finishes and glass doors at every turn opening to the balcony offering bird’s-eye views of the White House and Washington Monument. Sources say the first event in the newly renovated spaces was in January of this year.

If women ruled the world, would there be an obesity epidemic?   Well, with the chocolate covered strawberries served at the Ladies DC and United Nations Foundation Women’s Leading the Future Conference this past Saturday this might be true; however, many of those attending the conference, sporting those four inch pumps, including myself who towers at a mere 5’3, got to work this off in the networking that surrounds these type of events.

Despite Bin Laden's Death, One Thing Will Remain The Same For D.C. Area Residents

Despite Bin Laden's Death, One Thing Will Remain The Same For D.C. Area Residents

It was just after President Obama had finished his speech to the nation Sunday evening, announcing the death of Osama Bin Laden, that I left my apartment in Cleveland Park to drive the four short miles to the White House.

The trip down Connecticut Avenue was one I will never forget: Cars packed with citizens making the exact same trek, to the exact same location, for the exact same reason.

American flags hung out of windows, waving in the wind.  The calls of “USA”, joyous screams, and honking horns pierced through the Downtown D.C. night.

The blocks surrounding the President’s home played host to the revelry: Thousands of jubilant locals and tourists alike rallied to celebrate.

I circulated the crowd for about an hour, getting reaction from those involved.

Throughout this hour, one that seemed to be frozen in time, the feelings that were displayed, the sheer, raw human emotions that were expressed, showered over me.
